Soldiers’ Tales is a children’s opera in three scenes with a prologue and epilogue. The music and the libretto were written by Mariinsky Orchestra French horn player Alexei Pozin. He has composed other operas, ballets, symphony music and chamber opuses. The composer based his libretto on plots from several tales from Sasha Chorny’s eponymous cycle: Swan Coolness, The Soldier and the Mermaid, The Army Breakout and The Queen of Golden Heels among others. The protagonists of the work are a resourceful Soldier and a mischievous House-Spirit. They meet up with Kikimora, Wood-Goblins and, naturally, Baba Yaga. Children will also see a disobedient girl with her Nanny, and they will be present at rehearsals of brave military musicians and at the court of the capricious Queen. We will see whether the Soldier can solve the mystery of the enchanted kingdom…
