About the Concert

The programme of the closing concert of the XVIII International Conservatoire Week Festival features works by those composers who combine Russian and Polish composing traditions in their works. Fröhliche Ouverture by Witold Maliszewski, a student of Rimsky-Korsakov, will open the gala soirée performance. It will continue with the St Petersburg premiere of the symphonic poem Rise and Triumph by Sergei Slonimsky, patriarch of the St Petersburg composition school. The poem is dedicated to 100 years of Polish independence. The festival’s concert programme will conclude with Piano Concerto by Witold Lutosławski, a renowned Polish composer and student of Witold Maliszewski. Professor Pavel Savadsky (piano) of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music (Wrocław, Poland), the Symphony Orchestra of the St Petersburg Conservatoire conducted by Alexei Vasiliev, Honoured Artist of Russia and rector of the St Petersburg Conservatoire, will take part in the concert.
