The Tauride International Symphony Orchestra inherited the traditions of the Tauride Cappella that was founded by the Commonwealth of Independent States’ Inter-Parliamentary Assembly to mark the 220th anniversary of the Tauride Palace and was formed after the example of the ensemble that served Prince Grigory Potyomkin.
Presently, the ensemble independently organises concerts and charity and social events. The orchestra works under the aegis of the foundation The Charitable Foundation for the Support and Development of the Tauride Cappella founded by Mikhail Golikov.
The orchestra includes virtuoso international musicians from countries including the USA, Finland, Costa Rica, Mongolia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and Kazakhstan. Most of the orchestra’s musicians study at or have graduated from the St Petersburg State Conservatoire.
The principal task of the Tauride International Symphony Orchestra is to promote Russian and world music.
The ensemble is a regular participant in the Night Music concert series in St Petersburg, Gatchina and Pushkin and it frequently takes part in Pushkin Day celebrations. The Tauride Orchestra performs concerts at the Great Hall of the St Petersburg Philharmonic, the St Petersburg State Cappella, the Mariinsky Theatre, the Tauride and Sheremetiev Palaces, St Isaac’s, Palace and Arts Squares.
The ensemble frequently performs on tour; it has appeared at prestigious international festivals in over twenty countries.
