During its week at the  Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden the  Mariinsky Ballet and Orchestra will present seven performances. The performances by the  St Petersburg company over the  Christmas period at the  Festspielhaus have long been an eagerly-anticipated traditional event. This year in Baden-Baden the Mariinsky will be performing two grand classical productions – Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty; both of these productions have already won praise from the  public and critics in Baden-Baden. The tour opens with The Sleeping Beauty featuring Alina Somova and Vladimir Shklyarov. On 22 December the  lead roles in Marius Petipa’s classical masterpiece will be danced by Viktoria Tereshkina and Timur Askerov. German audiences will be presented with three duos in Swan Lake: on 23 December the  lead roles will be danced by Ulyana Lopatkina and Danila Korsuntsev, followed by Viktoria Tereshkina and Vladimir Shklyarov on 25 December and Alina Somova and Timur Askerov on 27 December. In line with tradition the  tour programme also includes galas at which Baden-Baden audiences can expect to discover new names of that “inexhaustible source of talent”, the  Mariinsky Ballet. On 26 December the  gala will feature Michel Fokine’s ballet Chopiniana and a divertissement comprising highlights from 19th and 20th century ballets. On 27 December in addition to Chopiniana and the classical scene Le Jardin animé from the  ballet Le Corsaire with Viktoria Tereshkina, Oxana Skorik, Vladimir Shklyarov and Andrei Yermakov Baden-Baden audiences will have the opportunity to see the Mariinsky Ballet performing contemporary choreography including William Forsythe’s ballet The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude as well as a premiere from last season – Anton Pimonov’s miniature Choreographic Game 3x3.
