Seven nominations for the Mariinsky Theatre

Eight nominations for the Mariinsky Theatre

 

The expert council of the Golden Mask prize has focussed on three premieres from the last year: one opera (Jacques Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann, directed by Vasily Barkhatov and designed by Zinovy Margolin) and two ballets (Diana Vishneva: Dialogues and A Midsummer Night’s Dream with choreography by George Balanchine).

Les Contes d’Hoffmann was nominated as Best Production as well as for Ildar Abdrazakov (Best Male Role), who sang the role of the many-sided villain (Lindorf, Coppélius, Dr Miracle and Dapertutto) and Alexander Sivaev (Best Lighting Designer in Musical Theatre).

Diana Vishneva’s project Diana Vishneva: Dialogues, consisting of three one-act ballets (Errand into the Maze with choreography by Martha Graham, Subject to Change by Paul Lightfoot and Sol León and Dialogue, specially created for the project by John Neumeier), has been nominated as best performance. The ballerina’s work was also nominated in the category Ballet and Modern Dance (Female Role) as was Bolshoi Theatre soloist Andrei Merkuriev in  Subject to Change (Ballet and Modern Dance (Male Role). Nominated productions also include George Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in addition to Yekaterina Kondaurova for the role of Titania.

The results of the competition will be announced on 16 April 2013 at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre.
