Muscovites will see a premiere from last season – French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj’s sensational ballet Le Parc, which will be performed by two casts of soloists: on 4 April the lead roles will be danced by Viktoria Teryoshkina and Alexander Sergeyev, followed on 5 April by Diana Vishneva and Konstantin Zverev. The production was nominated for the Golden Mask award in the categories “Best Ballet” of the previous season and “Best Female Role in Ballet” (performed by Vishneva).

6 April will see an evening of one-act ballets. The Mariinsky Ballet Company will be performing Emil Faski’s 2010 ballet Simple Things as well as two of last year’s premieres – Benjamin Millepied’s Without and Errand into the Maze by Martha Graham, the founder of modern dance in America. The idea to stage Errand into the Maze in Russia came from Diana Vishneva, who performed the piece at her gala at the Mariinsky Theatre during the Stars of the White Nights festival last year.

The project Mariinsky Theatre Premieres in Moscow forms part of the annual Golden Mask festival programme during which Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre travel to Moscow with their new opera and ballet productions. This year the project began in February when Vasily Barkhatov and Zinovy Margolin’s production of Rodion Shchedrin’s opera Dead Souls was performed to great acclaim.

All of the performances during the ballet tour will take place at the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre.
