A Combination of Sounds

This work – the result of the creative collaboration between pianist Irina Kataeva and actor Pierre Lamoureux – is a synthesis of music, poetry, dance, light and video.

The composition is constructed in such a way as to highlight the natural relationship between musical texts and poetic images in melodies and rhythms, while the movement and acting expressiveness form an emotional and imagistic visualisation.

This portrayal of two centuries of French poetry demonstrates various styles and trends in music. It is important to point out that it is works by Russian composers that will be performed against a background of poems by French writers, which allows us to feel the deep empathy between these two national cultures.

Poets, artists and performers all ask questions about their role in the world and in society. Through artistic images they try to express their principles and touch on themes affecting almost everyone which are complex and, at times, painful – themes of love and enmity, of war and the search for harmony with nature, of death and hope and of our destiny.
