SYNOPSIS

Prologue
Young Yu Meng dreams of receiving pointe shoes. She yearns to become the Swan Queen. But dreams are fleeting, and Yu Meng awakens.

Part One
Joys and Hardships
The day begins in the rehearsal hall. Through daily toil, Yu Meng draws closer to her dream. Under the watchful guidance of her teacher, she matures.
Growth
One day, a newcomer, Yu Heng, appears in the hall and becomes Yu Meng's partner. They train together, pursuing their shared dream. Their teacher observes as his beloved students grow day by day.
Chasing the Dream
In the rehearsal hall, sweat flows freely as the acrobats strive to realize their dreams through relentless effort and perseverance. Yu Meng spreads her wings atop Yu Heng's shoulders, challenging themselves time and again. Suddenly, Yu Meng falls from a great height.

Part Two
Darkest Hour
Black and white teeter on the brink. In the endless night, Yu Meng finds herself in the world of  Swan Lake. Fear breeds doubt: should she persist or give up? Yu Meng makes her decision and spreads her wings. Her dream empowers her, and she rises once more.
Transformation
Only through hardship can one achieve success; perseverance is the key to realizing dreams. Yu Meng dons her pointe shoes and rehearses atop Yu Heng's shoulders. After countless setbacks and overcoming pain, their shoulder ballet gains recognition. Yu Meng triumphs on the international stage, soaring high like the Swan Queen.
Flourishing
The sincerity, beauty, and kindness of acrobatics transcend all boundaries. Their journey was arduous, but they never surrendered. This is not just the story of Yu Meng and Yu Heng, but of all Chinese acrobats. Hard work is the most vibrant color of youth!

The Acrobatic Drama Swan follows the growth journey of acrobat Yu Meng, intertwining the creative process of "ballet on shoulders" and the birth of the world's first acrobatic drama Swan Lake. By drawing on the dramatic context of the classic ballet Swan Lake, the production creates a dual narrative space of "reality" and "fantasy." Through the innovative fusion of various art forms, it artistically portrays the authentic growth experiences of Chinese acrobats and their perseverance and resilience in pursuing their dreams.
The production has received funding from National Arts Fund and has been honored with the Guangdong Lu Xun Literary and Art Award, the National Acrobatic Exhibition Outstanding Repertoire Award, and the Guangdong Art Festival Award for Large-Scale Stage Works. In 2023, it successfully embarked on a tour in Russia, where it was hailed by the leadership of the Chinese Embassy in Russia as "an exceptional example of innovative integration of Chinese and Western arts." The performances were met with enthusiastic reception from Russian audiences, with tickets selling out for multiple shows.

Founded in 1959 (originally known as Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe of China), Guangzhou Acrobatic Arts Theatre Co., Ltd. is devoted to inheriting and developing Chinese traditional acrobatic techniques through assimilating and integrating the essence of dance, gymnastics, drama and other artistic categories, and forms a unique modern performing art style in the south of the Five Ridges. The Troupe's recent productions include The Butterfly Lovers, SWAN, Journey to the West – WuKong and Stop for a While, which has won the 17th Wenhua Performance Award, the 31st Shanghai Magnolia Stage Performance Award-Leading Role Award, the 11th China Acrobatic Exhibition Excellent Repertoire Award, the 12th Guangdong Spiritual Civilization the Best Works Award, the 11th Guangdong Province Lu Xun Cultural and Art Award, as well as other major awards in various acrobatic competitions at home and abroad, which have made outstanding contributions to the prosperity and development of modern acrobatic art and the enhancement of international artistic exchanges.
