Concert Choir of the Trinity Lavra of St Sergius

PROGRAMME:
selected chants performed at the Trinity Lavra of St Sergius

About the performers

The Choir of the Trinity Lavra of St Sergius was revived in 2007 with the blessing of Archbishop Feognost of Sergiev Posad, Abbot of the Trinity Lavra of St Sergius. The choir’s history is closely linked to the name of its choir master, Archimandrite Matthew (Mormyl) (1938–2009). By studying the history of liturgical singing in Russia, Archimandrite Matthew revived and brought back old liturgical chants, as well as forgotten works of church composers of the early 20th century.
The choir performed at such venues as the Hall for Church Assemblies of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and the State Kremlin Palace. It has toured throughout Russia (Volgograd, Kalyazin, Kostroma, Moscow Region, Sochi), Armenia, India and other countries.
Prize-winner of the Moscow Regional Choral Festival and Competition Sveshnikov and the Modern Day, the International Male Choirs and Ensembles Festival  Zharovsky Singing Assemblies (Kostroma), winner of the Russian Antarctic Medal and the Bryusov Medal of the Russian Centre for International Scientific and Cultural Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The choir recorded the works of Sergii Trubachev and Hieromonk Philip (Nesedov).
