PROGRAMME:
old ritual songs, round dances and games


The themes of this series are folk music, the preservation and development of the traditions of Russian folklore and performing folk instruments. The concerts will feature the participation of soloists and artistic groups of the faculty of folk instruments and the Folklore Ensemble of the St Petersburg Conservatory and folklore groups from St Petersburg and the Leningrad Oblast.

The balalaika, domra, gusli, bayan, accordion, duduk and zhaleika will be performed as solo instruments and in various ensemble combinations. Teachers and students from the conservatoire will be speaking about these instruments and introducing the audience to their performance possibilities. The folklore ensembles will present festive rituals, lyrical and round dance songs, calls and tunes from the Russian North and other regions in Russia.
