The concert China Night commemorates seventy years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China and seventy years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China.
The concert is being run on the initiative of the China Philharmonic Orchestra. As part of the festivities, performers from China will be staging concerts in six countries together with internationally renowned orchestras, presenting Chinese culture on an international level. The performances by the Chinese musicians are to take place alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Orchestra sinfonica of La Scala, the New Japan Philharmonic and the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse.
The programme of the concert at the Mariinsky Theatre includes works by Chinese composers that combine the traditions of Chinese and European classical music. The concert will take place under the baton of Zhang Guoyong, the Principal Conductor of the Shanghai Opera House and Music Director of the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, with the participation of French horn player Zeng Yun, recipient of the 1st prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, and guan player Han Lei, recipient of the 2nd prize at the International Competition of Performers of Chinese Folk Instruments.
