The first concert by the Terem Quartet took place on 26 November 1986. Since then, the musicians have frequently performed on tour, working with jazz and rock musicians, and have given joint concerts with symphony orchestras and folk ensembles.
The Terem Quartet has given over three thousand concerts in over sixty countries; it took part in the Eurovision competition in 2009 as well as Chanel's Paris – Moscow fashion show, and appeared at the Vatican to an audience of one hundred and twenty thousand, Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa, at St Mark's Square in Venice, St James' Palace in London, at a concert marking three thousand years of Jerusalem in the historic centre of the old city, before leaders of the G8 at a summit in St Petersburg, at the Moscow International Film Festival, at programmes of the Olympic Games in Barcelona, Vancouver, London and Sochi and at the opening of the Russian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Sochi.
The ensemble has also given concerts at the Grand Kremlin Palace, the Moscow Kremlin, the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Paris' Théâtre du Châtelet, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. On more than sixty occasions the musicians have represented Russia at major Russian and international festivals, among them WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) , the Edinburgh Festival, Stars of the White Nights, the Perth International Arts Festival (Australia) and the Pori Jazz Festival in Pori (Finland).
The ensemble's repertoire includes over five hundred original compositions. The ensemble is an organiser of the Terem Crossoverannual music competition, the Teremok children's folk song competition and the Summer Arts' School for Talented Children.
