The concert marking one hundred and fifty-five years since the establishment of the St Petersburg Conservatoire will feature professors and students of various performance faculties. The programme includes works by Alexander Glazunov, the continuous director of Russia's oldest institution of higher music education from 1907 to 1928, Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Dmitry Shostakovich, two leading graduates of the conservatoire, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, the founder of the St Petersburg school of composition who taught dozens of outstanding musicians, and Sergei Slonimsky – the patriarch of the present-day St Petersburg school of composition.
