In the one-act ballet Zhusan our guests from Astana invite the audience on a journey through the vast steppes of Kazakhstan. The plot of the performance is based on legends and myths of the people of the steppes, an allegorical image of which is embodied in the dance. The main theme of the ballet is awakening memories of the Great Steppes of the past – battle and peace, native lands and foreign places, serenity and anxiety, captivity and freedom, passion and tenderness...

II. Carmen
One-act ballet

Music: Georges Bizet-Rodion Shchedrin
Choreographer: Mukaram Avakhri
Set and Costume Designer: Olga Shaishmelashvili
Video Designer: Vadim Dulenko
Lighting Designer: Denis Solntsev

Carmen, the heroine of Prosper Mérimée’s novella on which the production is based, is unpredictable and inconstant, she’s like a pack of cards where each card has its own suit and purpose and it’s impossible to know what to expect today. Scenes of love and passion, fighting for a beloved and the desire for freedom and independence allow us a glimpse into the character’s inner world.
