Artis Sonus (“The Art of Sound” or “The Sound of Art”) is a vocals group from Poznań, founded at the beginning of 2014 by Jacek Sykulski, a conductor and composer. Sykulski asked singers who had been performing with him in the Academic Chorus of the Adam Mickiewicz University as well as the Poznań Boys’ Choirto collaborate with him. Artis Sonus began its activities by giving a concert during the 43rd Poznań Musical Spring international festival of contemporary music, and its performance was very well reviewed. From then on, the ensemble has been developing dynamically and has taken part in numerous interesting music projects, such as a recording sessi on with the German reggae musician Gentleman (the pseudonym of Tilmann Otto) arranged by the project Gentleman–Symphonic and participating in music festivals (Music in Sandomierz and the International Festival of Boys’ Choirs). Artis Sonus has also recorded a CD with Krzysztof Krawczyk that contains Polish arrangements of songs by Leonard Cohen. The group’s repertoire comprises compositions of early, classical and contemporary music as well as arrangements of pop and rock songs. The artistic purpose of Artis Sonus is to develop an innovative approach to sound and its transformation.
