The Berlin-based ensemble Wölk Jazz Trio performs works from different eras and styles – from the German classics to various trends in 21st century music. The quartet’s leader Ekkehard Wölk is known throughout Europe as a master of jazz interpretations of the classics.
The quartet is actively involved with the St Petersburg-based jazz musician Alexei Chizhik.

Jörn Henrich is an acclaimed German double-bass player. Alongside his career as a musician, he is involved in research. Professor of Philosophy at the University of Berlin and a guest Artistic Consultant of the Max Planck Institute.

Percussionist Andrea Marceelli frequently performs on tour. He has appeared in and worked on productions by such world-acclaimed jazz musicians as Wayne Shorter, Dave Liebman, Bob Mintzer, Eddie Gómez, Mike Stern, Bob Berg, John Patitucci, Ralph Towner and Mike Mainieri.

Alexei Chizhik is the only vibraphone player in Russia who can play with five sticks. He is well-known in St Petersburg thanks to the traditional Summer Gardens concerts. Alexei Chizhik has appeared with such acclaimed musicians as Plácido Domingo, Mstislav Rostropovich, Wynton Marsalis, Mariss Jansons, Eddie Gómez and JD Walter. He has given recitals at the most acclaimed venues in St Petersburg, among them the Great and Lesser Halls of the St Petersburg Philharmonic, the St Petersburg State Cappella, Smolny Cathedral and the Jazz Philharmonic. Has taken part in various music festivals including the Petropavlovsk JazzQ festival and the City Jazz Festival in Moscow.


The concert is taking place as part of the XII Germany Week in St Petersburg which is being run by the General Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in St Petersburg together with the Goethe Institute and the North-West Branch of the Russian-German International Chamber of Commerce
