Classical music was most fully developed in Germany and Russia. It emerged as the “calling cards” of our two countries and a vitally important part not just of our own cultures but of all world culture.
The idea of the Russo-German Music Academy emerged during preparations for the opening concert of the Year of Germany in Russia, held in June 2012 at the Great Hall of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire. Specially for this concert, a Russo-German student orchestra was formed, consisting of students from the Moscow Conservatoire and Berlin’s Universität der Künste.
Following the success of this concert a number of young musicians from both countries approached the project’s producer Tatjana Rexroth with the idea of continuing these combined Russo-German concerts in various chamber ensemble formats.
Over the following year, the concerts of the Academy’s orchestra, known as Ensemble 2012, took place at renowned venues in Moscow and Berlin as well as other towns and cities in Germany and Russia. One extremely important factor of the Academy’s work lies in the fact that the preparation of each concert programme of the young musicians is supervised by renowned teachers, alternately Russian and German. This format aims to ensure the direct transfer of experience and performing traditions relating to this or that work. The musicians meet in Germany and Russia; the main base of the Academy is the Mariinsky Theatre, a recognised leader in promoting young talents. The participants of the Academy are different each time depending on the programme being performed. In this project young musicians of the Mariinsky Theatre are collaborating together with German musicians.
Valery Gergiev is Artistic Director of the project and its Executive Director is Tatjana Rexroth, Director of RCCR Projects GmbH Berlin.
