Hedgehog in the Fog, fantasy in sand

Music lesson as part of the series Music Told in Tales of Sand for children aged 3-8

Sand animation is one of the most stunning and beautiful types of applied art and animation. This genre style was conceived by the Canadian animator Caroline Leaf. Sand animation is created “live” before the audience: thin layers of sand are applied on glass and shown on a screen using a projector.
The enchanting, fantastical and magical sounds of the vibraphone, woven together in a fairytale, hold the audience’s imagination throughout the concert. The synthesis of the words of the speaker, the magical and crystalline music of Marcello, Vivaldi, Mozart and Boccherini performed on the vibraphone and sand animation will immerse audiences in an amazing world for forty-five minutes.
The lesson will be led by Olga Piccolo, a music historian and member of the International Association of Music Psychologists and Psychotherapists. She will be assisted by Alexei Chizhik, a musician of the St Petersburg Philharmonic.
Following the concert the children will have the opportunity to make sand drawings under the guidance of sand-artists Marina Sosnina and Yaroslava Lanshakova and learn the “secret” of such an unusual concert through their own experience.
