The ensemble Lendvay and Friends is a unique orchestra comprising its virtuosi musicians who perform folk music as well as classical works from various eras and styles. The ensemble’s repertoire includes gypsy music, folkloric music from various nations and the classical repertoire. Jozsef Lendvay has only ever invited like-minded musicians to join the ensemble who share his passion for music and performance principles.
The ensemble’s discs have frequently won awards and prizes. Lendvay, released on Sony BMG, received the Echo Klassik prize in 2005 from the German Recording Academy in the category Klassik ohne Grenzen. The ensemble subsequently took part in a gala-concert at the Gasteig in Munich. Their combination of virtuoso technique, music humour and unrepressed emotionality, thanks to which the ensemble conveys the mood of any work in an ideal manner, makes each and every appearance by the ensemble Lendvay and Friends an unforgettable event.
The musicians appear in concert and at festivals throughout the world. Recently appeared at the Feldkirch Festival (Austria), the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Summer Nights festival in Potsdam (Germany). The ensemble has also appeared to great acclaim in Great Britain, France, South Korea, Hungary, Germany and Austria. When in September 2005 the former US President George Bush, former Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev and former Chancellor of Germany Helmut Kohl were awarded the Point-Alpha prize for their contribution to German re-unification, Lendvay and Friends performed at the prize-giving ceremony.
