Starting in 1996, the International Musical Olympus Festival has invited the most recent prize-winners of international competitions to St Petersburg on an annual basis. These young soloists perform alongside the symphony orchestras of the St Petersburg Philharmonic, the Mariinsky Theatre and the Hermitage. Over the years, Musical Olympus has presented over two hundred and eighty musicians from thirty-eight countries, among them instrumentalists, singers, conductors and composers. The main aim of the Festival is to assist young musicians at the outset of their professional careers, giving them the chance to perform in the most prestigious concert halls of Europe, America and Asia. At the same time, Musical Olympus also provides music-lovers with the unique opportunity to hear the world’s best young musicians and examine today’s standards and trends in the development of performing practice.
Since 2005 the Musical Olympus foundation has organised annual presentation concerts of the festival abroad – in Zurich, at Carnegie Hall in New York and at Berlin’s Philharmonie. At the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre the Musical Olympus Music Festival concerts are now a well-established event.
