THE VII INTERNATIONAL ORGAN FESTIVAL

In memory of Daniel Kern

11 – 19 October 2019

The International Organ Festival will run at the Mariinsky Theatre for the seventh time. Musicians from Russia, Germany, France, Italy and Austria will be presenting varied programmes for organ solo and together with orchestra, covering a repertoire ranging from the Baroque era to the present day.
In line with tradition, the festival will feature regular guests of organ music concerts at the Mariinsky. The programme will be opened by Thierry Escaich together with the Mariinsky Orchestra. Daniil Protsyuk and Zarina Shimanskaya will present a rarely performed ensemble of a duet for organ and piano, while Marina Vyaizya will perform a programme aimed at younger audiences.
Musicians appearing at the Concert Hall for the first time include Johannes Zeinler (Austria), recipient of the Grand Prix at the Chartres Organ Competition which was held in September 2018. The Chartres Competition is one of the most prestigious organ competitions, victory at which opens up the path for musicians to the world stage. Festival and subscription series organ music concerts at the Mariinsky Theatre regularly feature prize-winners of that competition in recent years – Benjamin Righetti, David Cassan, Karol Mossakowski, Thomas Ospital, Daria Burlak and Dong-Ill Shin.
Making their debuts at the festival will be Davide Mariano (Italy) with a programme that includes music from Bach to Prokofiev and Jean-Baptiste Monnot (France, Titular Organist at the Saint-Ouen Abbey Church in Rouen) who will present works by French composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. The festival will conclude with a concert featuring organ duo Olivier Vernet and Cédric Meckler (France), who will be performing transcriptions of works by Bach and Rameau for organ for four hands.
