The playbill for October has been announced

Dear Patrons, the playbill for October has been announced. Tickets for those performances and concerts are now on sale.

In October, the Mariinsky Theatre's venues will be presenting the main opera premieres of last season: The Maid of Orleans, Tannhäuser, Lakmé and Les Contes d'Hoffmann. Choreographer Maxim Petrov's new work Le Baiser de la fée will be staged the same evening as Radu Poklitaru's Symphony in Three Movements.

Fans of Russian opera may look forward to Glinka's Ruslan and Lyudmila, Borodin's Prince Igor, Rimsky-Korsakov's Sadko and Tchaikovsky's Mazepa. the playbill also includes hits from the Italian repertoire: Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, Verdi's La traviata and Puccini's Tosca and La Bohème. Also awaiting audiences are performances of rarely performed works such as Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, Prokofiev's Semyon Kotko and Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Valery Gergiev will be conducting performances of Wagner's Tannhäuser and Lohengrin.

Legendary opera soloists and stage veterans Yuri Marusin, Nikolai Putilin, Mikhail Kit and Vladimir Vaneyev are rehearsing for a gala concert at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre. Yuri Marusin will also be appearing in one of his finest roles — that of Canio in Pagliacci.

In October, the ballet Shurale will be returning to the Mariinsky Theatre. Alongside Giselle, La Sylphide and ballets by Michel Fokine, the repertoire for the month is to include works by our own young contemporaries: an evening of the one-act ballets Pierrot Lunaire, Seven Sonatas and Сoncerto DSCH as well as Anna Karenina by Alexei Ratmansky, Le Parc by Angelin Preljocaj and The Four Seasons by Ilya Zhivoi (with Viktoria Tereshkina and Vladimir Shklyarov in the lead roles).

The concert music playbill is to feature symphony and chamber programmes with violinist Nikita Borisoglebsky, cellist Alexander Ramm and pianist Anna Odintsova as well as the Mariinsky Stradivarius Ensemble. At the end of the month there will be the Mariinsky organ music festival, to feature leading European and Russian performers. This year, the festival's participants are to include Karol Mossakowski, Martin Zander, Johannes Zeinler, Daria Burlak and Lilia Yakusheva.
