Ekaterina Sannikova becomes a prize-winner at the Operalia competition

Mariinsky Theatre soloist, a fellow of the Atkins Young Artists Program at the Mariinsky Theatre Ekaterina Sannikova has been named a prize-winner at the prestigious international competition Operalia, which ran from 18 to 24 October at the Bolshoi Theatre.

At the awards ceremony, the competition’s founder Plácido Domingo presented the singer with the CulturArte prize, established by Guillermo and Bertita Martínez. Ekaterina appeared in the final in the category “Zarzuela”.

The Operalia competition, founded in 1993 on the initiative of maestro Domingo, is held on an annual basis for young opera singers at the world’s finest opera houses and concert halls. The aim of the competition is to afford rising stars not just the opportunity to vie for the top awards but also to prove themselves in the eyes of opera’s leading lights.

In years past, Operalia competition prize-winners have included Mariinsky Theatre soloists Elena Stikhina, Olga Pudova, Daniil Shtoda, Dmitry Voropaev, Roman Burdenko and Mikhail Petrenko.
