The Mariinsky online: 100 million hits

Live broadcasts and online screenings of videos from the archives of the Mariinsky Theatre have reached new heights – more than 100 million hits.

For nearly four months, almost every evening the theatre has been coming on air and sharing specially chosen recordings and live broadcasts with audiences throughout the world on mariinsky.tv and via social networking websites. Over the period, there have been more than one hundred and thirty online screenings and several live broadcasts, each of which has proved particularly significant for the company.

"Each day, the Mariinsky Theatre is displaying the wealth of its treasure-house of recorded performances and concerts. Today we have reached an astounding figure – one hundred million hits and over one hundred countries from where audiences have been viewing these performances and concerts. We decided to make these months' viewing free of charge based on the notion that this generous step by the Mariinsky Theatre is very appropriate at this difficult time and will hopefully be viewed as a kind gesture which, at the same time, will form yet another message of good will from Russia," commented Valery Gergiev.

In returning to concerts and performances on the stage, the theatre will continue to broadcast – with new programmes and in a new regime. Please keep an eye on any announcements, as there is much of great interest still to come.
