Marking the anniversary of Larisa Gergieva, People's Artist of Russia

On 28 February at 20.00 at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre there will be a celebratory concert marking the birthday and the fiftieth anniversary of a life dedicated to art of Larisa Abisalovna Gergieva, People's Artist of Russia and Director of the Mariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers.

That evening she will receive a musical present from her students – soloists of the Mariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers including Maria Bayankina, Antonina Vesenina, Natalia Pavlova, Olga Pudova, Yulia Matochkina, Yekaterina Sergeyeva, Ilya Selivanov, Yaroslav Petryanik and Grigory Chernetsov among others. The Mariinsky Orchestra will be conducted by Zaurbek Gugkaev.

Having trained an entire galaxy of opera stars, Larisa Gergieva is widely known as a vocal accompanist, internationally acclaimed coach and founder, director and chair of the juries of many prestigious vocal competitions. She has trained over two hundred opera singers of the highest calibre and rehearsed over one hundred productions for various theatres both in Russia and abroad.

Larisa Gergieva dedicates much of her time to working with the Mariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers. Under her direction there are annual vocal subscription series, rarely performed operas have returned to the stage and there have been world premieres of several works. In the 2016-17 season as part of the project Six Short Operas alone, the Prokofiev Hall (Mariinsky II) will be hosting seventeen premieres.
