Vladimir Ponomarev joined the Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatre in 1964. Over the course of his long stage career, Ponomarev has danced in ballets by many choreographers, his repertoire including a vast array of roles. Thanks to his plastique expressiveness and acting skills, Vladimir Ponomarev has been able to bring to life a huge range of vivid and convincing characters in ballets staged at the Mariinsky Theatre, among them the evil magician von Rothbart in Swan Lake, the Archangel in The Creation, Peter I in The Bronze Horseman, the Emperor in Pushkin, the Guest of the Monsters in Land of Miracles, the High Brahmin in La Bayadère, Capulet in Romeo and Juliet, Ghirei in The Fountain of Bakhchisarai and Don Quixote in the eponymous ballet. Today, Vladimir Ponomarev’s appearances in diverse mime roles are a firm guarantee of quality thanks to his flawless stage technique, noble manner and refined gestures.
