Valery Gergiev conducts all day long on Mariinsky FM

On 2 May, the day of the grand gala opening of the new stage of the Mariinsky Theatre and the birthday of the Mariinsky Theatre’s Artistic Director, maestro Valery Gergiev will be on Mariinsky FM internet radio all day; the programme features recordings of the orchestra, chorus and soloists of the Kirov-Mariinsky Theatre conducted by Valery Gergiev in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s as well as greetings from friends and colleagues.
 

On the day, it will be possible to listen to recordings of performances made over the years, among them the operas Manon Lescaut by Giacomo Puccini (1980), Ruslan and Lyudmila by Mikhail Glinka (1996) and Don Quichotte by Jules Massenet featuring Ferruccio Furlanetto in the title role (2011) and Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto with Daniil Trifonov at the Tchaikovsky Competition. The maestro’s colleagues and friends Maria Guleghina, Plácido Domingo, Diana Vishneva and Vasily Barkhatov will congratulate Valery Gergiev on his birthday.
