Russia’s Golden Mask awards ceremony was held on 16 April at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre in Moscow. The Mariinsky Theatre was represented in seven categories and won three awards. The project Diana Vishneva: Dialogues (Martha Graham’s Errand into the Maze, Sol León and Paul Lightfoot’s Subject to Change and John Neumeier’s Dialogue) was named “Best ballet production”, while prima ballerina Diana Vishneva received a Golden Mask for “Best female role”. Ildar Abdrazakov’s work in the opera Les Contes d’Hoffmann (directed by Vasily Barkhatov) was also rewarded with the prestigious prize. The expert jury hailed his performance of the role of duplicitous villain (Lindorf-Coppélius-Dr Miracle-Dapertutto) as the finest in the category “Best male role in opera”. |
