Grand Théâtre in Geneva |
The Mariinsky Theatre Stradivarius Ensemble was established on the initiative of maestro Gergiev and comprises leading musicians from the theatre’s orchestra. On 3 October at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva the skills of the Stradivarius Ensemble performers under the baton of Valery Gergiev will once again be serving worthy causes at a gala concert in aid of Switzerland’s Fondation Dr Henri Dubois-Ferrière Dinu Lipatti, which was founded in 1970 in memory of the brilliant Romanian pianist who died young and the doctor who treated him. All funds raised from ticket sales will go to the foundation, which supports research in haematology as well as providing day-to-day assistance to patients and their families in order to continue the fight against cancer-related blood diseases. The concert programme will include Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, Edvard Grieg’s Suite from Holberg’s Time and Dmitry Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No 1, the solos to be performed by Denis Matsuev (piano) and Timur Martynov (trumpet).
