The Festspielhaus hosts festivals several times a year. This year saw an Easter Festival added to the traditional Winter, Summer, Autumn and Trinity Festivals. One key event of the 2012 Summer Festival will be a premiere of Graham Vick’s production of Modest Musorgsky’s opera Boris Godunov. This opera is a co-production between the Mariinsky Theatre and the Festspielhaus and will be performed twice – on 20 and 22 July. Moreover, on 21 July the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra will be performing Gustav Mahler’s Second Symphony followed by Maurice Ravel’s orchestration of Modest Musorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Denis Matsuev performing the solo in Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto on 23 July.

One of the largest concert halls in Europe, the Festspielhaus is a railway station that has been rebuilt in the neoclassical style. Seating an audience of two and a half thousand, the hall is famed for its acoustics and spacious foyer, which combines a comfortable design with natural lighting.
