Ballet dancers Yekaterina Kondaurova, Oxana Skorik, Kim Kimin and Timur Askerov have been nominated for and received several prestigious awards. | |||
A Mariinsky Ballet Company trainee, twenty-year-old student of the Korean National University Kim Kimin won Grand Prix at two international competitions. The dancer took the top award at the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), a major competition for young dancers held in New York between 22 and 26 April. At the Russian ARABESQUE competition which took place at the Tchaikovsky Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in Perm between 1 and 15 April and which is open to foreign students, Kim Kimin was awarded the Grand Prix named after the outstanding Russian ballerina Yekaterina Maximova. In an interview for Perm TV the dancer stated that he has “been interested in Russian ballet since childhood,” “has watched over and over many video recordings of performances by famous Soviet dancers” and, as well as technique, he is also interested in the history of ballet. On International Dance Day on 29 April at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre in Moscow, Ballet magazine presented the Spirit of Dance award to leading Mariinsky Theatre soloist Yekaterina Kondaurova, while nominees in the category “Rising Star” for 2012 included young dancers Oxana Skorik and Timur Askerov.
