On 16 April the historic Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow held Russia’s XVIII national Golden Mask theatre prize grand awards ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Mariinsky Theatre soloists Ulyana Lopatkina and Ildar Abdrazakov. This year the theatre won two Masks, both of them in opera categories – Willard White was awarded the prize for best male role in opera (as Bottom in Benjamin Britten’s opera A Midsummer Night’s Dream), while Zinovy Margolin won the prize for best designs in musical theatre for Rodion Shchedrin’s Dead Souls on which he collaborated with Stage Director Vasily Barkhatov. |
