The Mariinsky Ballet Company and Symphony Orchestra will be taking part in the tour under the baton of maestro Gergiev.
Following its sensational appearances at the Gran Teatre de Liceu in Barcelona that witnessed performances of Pyotr Gusev’s version of Marius Petipa’s ballet Le Corsaire between 21 and 27 November, the Mariinsky Ballet Company is returning to Spain. This time Valencia will host performances of Leonid Lavrovsky’s ballet Romeo and Juliet to music by Sergei Prokofiev; on 10 December Valery Gergiev will be conducting, while on 11 December Alexei Repnikov will take to the stand. The lead roles will be performed by Mariinsky Ballet Company soloists Maria Shirinkina, Alina Somova, Vladimir Shklyarov and Igor Kolb. The performances will be held at the renowned Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, which was designed by outstanding modern architect Santiago Calatrava. This futuristic complex, somewhat reminiscent of a seashell or the helmet of a Spanish warrior, forms part of a unique “City of Arts and Science” architectural ensemble. The Palau regularly hosts prestigious theatre, music and opera performances by acclaimed international companies. For details about the tour of the Mariinsky Ballet Company please go to:
