The prize of the only Russian ballet magazine summed up the ballerina’s professional achievements over the last two seasons. Last year she performed the role of Anna Karenina in Alexei Ratmansky’s ballet Anna Karenina after Diana Vishneva and Ulyana Lopatkina, and not only did she prove a worthy competitor to these dazzling stars of the Mariinsky Theatre – she also won a Golden Mask award for her performance. As Anna Galaida stated in Vedomosti, “Ratmansky’s Anna Karenina, although it was staged for a totally different ballerina, seems to have been staged especially for Kondaurova.” In addition to the role of Anna Karenina, over the last two seasons Yekaterina Kondaurova’s repertoire has expanded to include the roles of Carmen in Alberto Alonso’s Carmen Suite, Aegina and Phrygia in the revival of Leonid Yakobson’s Spartacus and the lead female role in Angelin Preljocaj’s Le Parc. Although broadly differing in terms of style and drama, Yekaterina Kondaurova’s interpretations of these roles attracted equal interest from both the press and the public. |
