On 18 September 2012 the Mariinsky Theatre opens its 230th season. In line with tradition, the Mariinsky Theatre will be preparing several surprises for its fans.

This unique hall first opened its doors to the public five years ago in the autumn of 2007. Today, it is impossible to imagine concert music in Russia as well as just St Petersburg without it.

In late July the Mariinsky label released a recording of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto featuring Daniil Trifonov and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev.

In accordance with a contract signed by maestro Valery Gergiev and Natalia Komarova, Governor of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Region, 2012 is officially The Year of the Mariinsky Theatre in Yugra.
