On 18 September 2012 the Mariinsky Theatre opens its 230th season. At the traditional press-conference the theatre’s Artistic and General Director Valery Gergiev will introduce the public to the plans for the coming season, which will include the anniversaries of arguably two of European theatre’s greatest composers – both Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi were born in 1813. In line with tradition, the Mariinsky Theatre will be preparing several surprises for its fans, one of which will be the launch of an internet radio station – a permanent audio broadcast that will be available to users via the portal mariinsky.fm.
