In late July the Mariinsky label released a recording of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto featuring Daniil Trifonov and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev.

Despite being so young, Daniil Trifonov – a prize-winner at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition – is one of the most sought-after musicians in the world today. This season alone the pianist gave more than eighty concerts in sixteen countries. Trifonov has performed Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto with Gergiev on several occasions – with the Vienna and London Symphony Orchestras and with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in St Petersburg, New York, Astrakhan, Istanbul and Baden-Baden.
