Alexander Ponomarev was born in 1980. In 2004 he graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory (class of Viktor Sumerkin). He joined the Mariinsky Orchestra that same year. Also appears on a regular basis with the brass ensemble Seven plus, the Mariinsky Trombone Ensemble and the Mariinsky Brass Ensemble.
