Isaac Hernández


• Prize-winner at the International Ballet Competition in Cuba (2004, 1st prize)
• Prize-winner at the X International Ballet and Choreography Competition in Moscow (2005, 3rd prize and Special Prize)
• Prize-winner at the International Ballet Competition in Jackson (USA, 2005, 1st prize)
• Recipient of the Alexandra Radius Prize (2008)

Born in Guadalajara (Mexico). He took his first dance lessons from his father Hector Hernández. Having won a grant, he continued to train at The Rock School for Dance Education in Philadelphia (USA). Appeared with the junior company of American Ballet Theatre. In 2008 he joined the corps de ballet of the San Francisco Ballet and became a soloist in 2010.
From 2012 he was a soloist with the Dutch National Ballet, and following his performance as Prince Désiré in the ballet The Sleeping Beauty in 2013 Isaac Hernández was promoted to the rank of principal. As a guest soloist he has appeared with the English National Ballet.
Isaac Hernández’ repertoire includes lead roles in the classical ballets Giselle (Albrecht), Swan Lake (Prince Siegfried), La Bayadère (Solor), Raymonda (Jean de Brienne; Nureyev’s version), Don Quixote (Basilio; Alexei Ratmansky’s production), roles in George Balanchine’s ballets Symphony in C and The Four Temperaments, John Cranko’s Onegin, Frederick Ashton’s The Dream and Symphonic Variations, Romeo and Juliet (Romeo, Mercutio; Rudi van Dantzig’s version), Hans van Manen’s Dances with Harp, Alexei Ratmansky’s Russian Seasons, Christopher Wheeldon’s Cinderella and Wayne McGregor’s Chroma.
