Paola Mariani


Costume Designer

Paola Mariani was born in Cattolica (Italy) and studied set design at the Accademia di Belle Arte in Urbino. Since 1985 she has worked as a costume designer at theatres in Italy and abroad, collaborating with leading stage directors and production designers. Mariani’s work colleagues include Gabriele Salvatores (La Fille du régiment), Jonathan Miller (Falstaff and Le nozze di Figaro), Dario Fo (L’italiana in Algeri) and Emilio Sagi (El retablo de Maese Pedro, Il cordovano and Simon Boccanegra). On numerous occasions Mariani has collaborated with the stage directors Denis Krief (Linda di Chamounix, Un ballo in maschera, La clemenza di Tito, The Death of Klinghoffer, Carmen, Turandot and Moses und Aron) and Yannis Kokkos (Zelmira, Król Roger and Tancredi). Since 1994 Paola Mariani has been Principal Costume Designer for the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. Since 2005 she has taught Theatre Costume Design at the Accademia di Belle Arte of Bologna and Urbino.
