Holly Hynes


Costume Designer
Holly Hynes has designed over two hundred ballets in her long career as a costume designer. For twenty-one years she was the Director of Costumes for the New York City Ballet where she has designed seventy ballets. In North America, Hynes’ theatre designs have been seen on Broadway as well as with such major ballet companies as American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, the National Ballet of Canada, Houston Ballet, the Joffrey Ballet, the Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet and Boston Ballet.

Outside the USA, her designs can be seen at such companies as the Royal Ballet in London, La Scala in Milan, the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, the Stuttgart Ballet in Germany, the Bulgarian State Ballet and the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen. In addition to her original design work, Holly Hynes serves as a consultant with the authority to teach costume reproductions of various established designs for the Jerome Robbins Estate and the George Balanchine Trust, serving many companies in Europe and the United States including the Mariinsky Ballet, the Paris Opéra Ballet, the Royal Danish Ballet, the Bayerische Staatsballett, the Berliner Staatsoper, the Hamburg Ballet, Het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam and the Royal Ballet in London. The recreation of Ratmansky’s Concerto DSCH is her second design for the Mariinsky Theatre. Her first world premiere was Peter Quanz’s ballet Aria Suspended in 2007.
