Fritz Fitzke


Fritz Fitzke  Lighting Designer

From 1989 to 2007 this Vienna-born artist was the director of the lighting department for Vereinigte Buhnen Wien, the management company of three major Viennese theatres including the Theater an der Wien. He has worked as a lighting designer for Vereinigten Buhnen Wien, the Wiener Staatsoper and the Wiener Festwochen, and has contributed to numerous operas, musicals and concerts. He has also worked at other theatres including the Bristol Hippodrome, the Volksoper Wien, the Theater an der Wien, the Ronacher Wien, the Raimundtheater Wien, the New National Opera in Tokyo, the Beijing Opera, the Konzerthaus Wien, the Teatro Rossetti in Trieste, the Teatro di Ravenna and the Bilbao Opera. His most notable works include productions of I Hate Mozart (Michael Sturminger / Bernhard Lang), Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots (Philipp Harnoncourt / Nikolaus Harnoncourt ), the musical Grease and the operetta Der Graf von Luxemburg (Michael Schottenberg), Christmas Musical (Caspar Richter / Ramesh Nair), Fidelio (Bertrand de Billy / Gert Hagen Seebach), Don Giovanni and Cosi fan tutte (Riccardo Muti / Roberto de Simone). In 2007 Kurt Schöny was guest lecturer on lighting design at the Universitat fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Graz with Hans Schavernoch. In September 2007 he was appointed Technical Director of the Theater an der Wien.
