The Mariinsky Theatre is beginning celebrations to mark one hundred and seventy-five years since the birth of Pyotr Tchaikovsky a day in advance. And not just with operas and ballets – Iolanta at the new theatre and ballet galas at the old theatre – but also with concerts in the chamber venues of the Mariinsky-II which will commence at 21:30.
During the second half of the performance at 22:30 in the Stravinsky Foyer audiences will hear jazz improvisations by the Chizhik Jazz Quartet on themes from the composer’s works and “Pyotr Ilyich” desserts in the theatre buffet (all costing 175 roubles); there will also be an exhibition of theatre costumes from various productions over the years and a DJ set for the departure of guests as midnight approaches.
For good weather, from 21:00 the roof terrace will be open, offering a wonderful panorama view of the city centre.
