Sergey Davydchenko, Winner of the XVII Tchaikovsky International Competition, to Perform All Prokofiev's Piano Concerti at the Mariinsky Theatre

From 23 to 31 December the XVIII Mariinsky International Piano Festival will be held across the three stages of the Mariinsky Theatre. One of the festival's highlights will be the All Prokofiev Piano Concerti cycle. Sergey Davydchenko, winner of the XVII Tchaikovsky International Competition (First Prize), will perform all five concertos of the great Russian composer accompanied by the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev. One of the performances will be conducted by the young Chinese conductor Haoran Li, laureate of the Rachmaninov International Competition for Pianists, Composers, and Conductors (Third Prize).

The recent XVII Tchaikovsky International Competition unveiled a bright new star  pianist Sergey Davydchenko, who not only won the First Prize, gold medal, and special awards but also captured the sincere affection of the audience. At the upcoming festival the musician will perform all five of Prokofiev's piano concertos. This event is particularly significant as it was Prokofiev's Second Piano Concerto that secured Davydchenko's victory  he performed this piece in the competition's third round.

Prokofiev's piano concertos will ceremoniously open and close the XVIII Mariinsky International Piano Festival. The opening of the festival at the Concert Hall on 23 December at 20:00 will feature the Second and Fifth concertos. Prokofiev's Fourth Piano Concerto will be performed on 24 December at 20:00. The evening's program will also include Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Richard Strauss' symphonic poem Tod und Verklärung, and Stravinsky's ballet music for The Firebird. The Mariinsky Orchestra will be conducted by Haoran Li, winner of the Third Prize and bronze medal of the Rachmaninov International Competition for Pianists, Composers, and Conductors. The festival's closing will take place on 31 December at 15:30 on the new stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, featuring Prokofiev's First and Third Piano Concertos with Valery Gergiev at the conductor's stand.

Within the XVIII Mariinsky International Piano Festival the audience will also have the opportunity to enjoy all of Prokofiev's sonatas. The concert uniting them will take place on 24 December at 14:00. The composer's nine sonatas will be performed by Timofey Kalmykov, Abisal Gergiev, Elizaveta Ukrainskaya, Valentin Malinin, Vitaly Petrov, Stanislav Korchagin, Sergey Davydchenko and Alexander Pirozhenko.
