The Mariinsky online: Tchaikovsky's symphonies

The Mariinsky Theatre is continuing to expand its series of online programming. On 24 March at 19.00 (Moscow Time) mariinsky.tv will broadcast a symphony concert. The Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev will be performing Tchaikovsky's First and Sixth Symphonies, which were recorded in September 2019 at the Zaryadye Concert Hall in Moscow. These opuses emerged as a unique framework for the composer's creativity in symphony music: Winter Dreams was the maestro's first and a particularly difficult and painful experience in the genre while the latter, the Pathétique symphony, forms his artistic legacy, full of musical illuminations and tragic presentiments.

The performance of all of Tchaikovsky's symphonies is one of the Mariinsky Theatre's most significant projects and is a marathon that Valery Gergiev periodically includes in his programmes. At the Zaryadye Concert Hall in 2019 the cycle All of Tchaikovsky's Symphonies by the Mariinsky Orchestra opened the 2019-20 season, while one year earlier the orchestra under the baton of maestro Gergiev performed the cycle as part of a major tour of the XVII Moscow Easter Festival and a tour to Switzerland (Lucerne, Geneva and Zurich).

It should be remembered that as part of its online programming the Mariinsky Theatre has already presented a live broadcast of a Gala Concert of harpists appearing at the Northern Lyre harp festival and recordings of opera and ballet productions. As previously, several of these are accessible on the Mariinsky Theatre's platform on YouTube.
