The Mariinsky Theatre is commencing a series of on-line broadcasts and screenings

The Mariinsky Theatre is temporarily closed in accordance with a decree issued by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, though events, as always, remain open to audiences: the theatre has planned a series of on-line broadcasts and screenings of concerts and performances. The first broadcast will take place today, 19 March.

At 19.00 on mariinsky.tv it will be possible to see the Gala Concert of the IV International Northern Lyre Harp Festival. The programme will have two important accents – the unique work Scottish Rhapsody by Valery Kikta for male chorus, organ, authentic percussion and Celtic harp (St Petersburg premiere) and the world premiere of Ascension by Eduard Kiprsky for string quartet and harp. In the latter opus the harp appears not just as a solo or ensemble instrument but as a fully-fledged member of a piece of choreography created especially for the festival by Oleg Gabyshev of the Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre. The soloist will be Mariinsky Ballet artiste Yevgeny Deryabin. Festival guest performers and Mariinsky Theatre artistes will also be presenting works by George Frideric Handel, Maurice Ravel, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Emmerich Kálmán and Johann Strauss (Sohn).

In addition to the on-line broadcasts, it is planned to stage screenings of concerts and performances from the "gold reserves" of the Mariinsky Theatre. The revised schedule will be published on the theatre's website. Please follow any announcements.
