Anna Netrebko and Plácido Domingo at the Mariinsky Theatre once again

For fans of opera, the Mariinsky Theatre has been preparing an incredible gift: upcoming performances of Il trovatore on 29 November and Eugene Onegin on 7 December will feature Anna Netrebko, while on 10 December Plácido Domingo will be singing the title role in Nabucco. Valery Gergiev will be conducting on all three evenings.

This performance of Onegin with Netrebko will see her long-promised and eagerly-anticipated rescheduled debut in St Petersburg as Tatiana (Anna had planned to sing Tchaikovsky's opera back in September). She will also be appearing in Verdi's Il trovatore. The singer appeared as Leonora in the premiere of the production by Pier Luigi Pizzi in 2013. On 29 November the lead roles are to be performed by Ekaterina Semenchuk (Azucena) and Vladislav Sulimsky (the Conte di Luna) who also dazzled at the premiere as well as Yusif Eyvazov (Manrico), who will be appearing in this Mariinsky Theatre production for the first time. In Eugene Onegin on 7 December the title role will be sung by Alexei Markov with Ekaterina Semenchuk as Olga, Sergei Skorokhodov as Lensky and Mikhail Petrenko as Gremin.

Opera maestro Plácido Domingo is coming to St Petersburg to sing Nabucco with the Mariinsky Opera. The concert performance will feature prima donnas of the Verdian repertoire Tatiana Serjan and Ekaterina Semenchuk. The role of the military commander Ismaele (whom both female protagonists love) will be sung by tenor Sergei Skorokhodov and that of Zaccaria by Mikhail Petrenko.

Tickets for all three events are already on sale and will bear the names of those attending the performance. When purchasing tickets, members of the public may select any seat in the auditorium that is available, although the total number of seats will be limited in accordance with the demands of the Russian Consumer Inspectorate.
