On 18 May mariinsky.tv will again be broadcasting music by Sergei Prokofiev. The expansive programme, recorded at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre and featuring virtuoso musicians, will conclude a marathon of broadcasts of all of the composer's symphonies and concerti. The Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev is to perform the Fourth Piano Concerto (soloist – Sergei Redkin), the Second Violin Concerto (soloist – Kristóf Baráti) and the Fifth Piano Concerto (soloist – Vadym Kholodenko), as well as the Seventh Symphony. The works will be presented in a recording made during the major Prokofiev Marathon, initiated in 2016 by Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre. Those concerts marking one hundred and twenty-five years since the composer's birth saw the participation of more than fifteen soloists over two days in addition to musicians of the theatre's orchestra.
The broadcast will be available to view from 19.00 on the platform mariinsky.tv, as well as via the social networking sites VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. The video will remain accessible for 24 hours.
