Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker open the 2019-20 season

On 18 September the Münchner Philharmoniker will open its new season at its home venue – the Gasteig Philharmonie (Munich). The concert series to be conducted by Valery Gergiev will take place from 18 to 20 September. The programme will specifically focus on the symphony music of Anton Bruckner.

18 September will see a performance of Symphony No 6 by Anton Bruckner and Symphony No 1 by Alfred Schnittke, 19 September will feature Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No 7 and Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll and on 20 September there will be a performance of Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No 5 and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No 36 (Linz). On 23, 24 and 25 September these works will also be performed at the International Bruckner Festival in Sankt Florian (Austria), as part of which the Münchner Philharmoniker will continue to unveil its grandiose project – the performance and live recording of all of Anton Bruckner’s symphonies at the Sankt Florian Monastery where the composer is buried.

Valery Gergiev has been Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Münchner Philharmoniker since the 2015-16 season.
