Anna Netrebko, Ekaterina Semenchuk and Yusif Eyvazov – a stellar cast for Aida at the Stars of the White Nights

On 8 June at 18.00 as part of the XXVII Stars of the White Nights Music Festival the historic Mariinsky Theatre will be hosting an extraordinary event – Aida conducted by Valery Gergiev and featuring Anna Netrebko in the title role, Ekaterina Semenchuk (Amneris), Yusif Eyvazov (Radamès), Yevgeny Nikitin (Ramfis) and Roman Burdenko (Amonasro).
Each of these star performers has already appeared in Verdi's famous opera, but Alexei Stepanyuk's production of Aida will bring them all together at the Mariinsky Theatre for the first time.

Anna Netrebko made a triumphant debut as Aida under Riccardo Muti at the Salzburg Festival in 2017, while in autumn 2018 she first sang the role at the Metropolitan Opera. In Anna Netrebko's singing, The Telegraph underlined the dazzling elegance, richness, beauty and virtuoso quality of her voice. At the Salzburg Festival, the heroine of the title was countervailed onstage by another opera prima donna – Ekaterina Semenchuk. For her, the role of Amneris marks one of the brightest pages in her artistic biography. As well as at home at the Mariinsky Theatre, Ekaterina Semenchuk has sung it at La Scala and the Teatro di San Carlo, while in 2015 conductor Antonio Pappano invited her to participate in a concert performance and a recording of Aida in Rome with the orchestra and chorus of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. That recording was released by the major recording company Warner Classics. The role of Radamès will be performed by Yusif Eyvazov. Like Anna Netrebko, he sang in the famous Salzburg production of 2017, although his partner was the South Korean Vittoria Yeo. According to Yusif Eyvazov, Radamès is one of his favourite opera characters.
